Viral hepatitis

Hepatitis B is one of the most prevalent viral infections, with an estimated 2 billion people exposed and 250 million with a chronic infection at risk of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.  Coinfection with the hepatitis delta virus further increases the risk of serious complications

Hepatitis B

The goal of curing hepatitis B infection has proved elusive, despite many varied approaches.  After large numbers of failures, the most promising results are coming from combining drugs with complementary mechanisms of action, but the goal has not yet been attained.

Hepatitis delta

Recent work has advanced understanding of the prevalence of HDV infection and promising results in clinical trials are raising hopes of effective treatments or cure in the foreseeable future.

Elimination of viral hepatitis

Huge advances have been made in reducing the risk of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in patients infected with hepatitis viruses, but the stated goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat remains far off.

Further advances in therapy and vaccination are still required
